The most important key for the purposeful development of your employees is a series of regular meetings to give them guidance and feedback. To that end, here are steps, with some tools, to initiate and maximize the effectiveness of those meetings.
First things first! With your employee, establish the day/time/frequency of your meetings. Monthly is probably minimal, with “every other week” being a good idea if you’re just getting started and/or don’t have a pattern of other regular meetings (i.e. team meetings). Some relationships/circumstances may call for weekly meetings, at least for a season.
This is a KEY (and handy) way to keep important summary information about the employee (and their development needs/goals) in one place. Work with your supervisee(s) to complete it.
Most of the content is familiar and available to you and/or your supervisee. Personality (and other assessments) in the “Design” portion can be found (those we may have) in the Supervisors’ Drive, “Employee Profiles” folder. Information may also be gathered from the employee.
It may be best to start this Sheet yourself, and then work with your employee(s) on completing it. Doing so is great material for your first meeting with them.
This tool, along with other tools provided by Min Leads (and those below), is built around conversational questions, and your notes made in answer to those.
Follow the Meet Sheet link above to the templates folder and choose the Meet Sheet template (then use the instructions for the LCS above to save/share it).
For it to be most useful (in terms of building developmentally toward each annual 360 reviews), keep in mind:
