Leading ourselves well qualifies us to lead others. As a result, our staff is committed to the lifelong pursuit of personal growth and development.

Staff Development

All staff report to a supervisor in accomplishing our duties and evaluating our job performance, standards, and expectations. In most organizations, employee development begins and ends in that relationship. At Grace, we recognize and affirm the need for development in other, more holistic ways. We each also need coaching and mentoring to grow. The definitions of coaches and mentors can be found in the image to the right.

Some employees will find coaching and/or mentoring in their relationship with their supervisor, and some will not. In order to ensure that every staffer enjoys all 3 types of input and development, we will provide means, tools, and connections (in the context of one, two, or three personal relationships) as needed.

Staff Expectations

You are an integral part of Grace Staff with a unique role in building up our church body. As such, your participation and presence is expected and vital in areas beyond your department.

The first and most obvious is church on Sundays. Many of us have “Sunday hours required” on our job descriptions, but those who don’t are highly encouraged to engage with the ministry of Grace toward our congregations!

Secondly, there are essential meetings (outside your department) throughout the year that you will be invited to, and we expect your attendance. These could include a combination of monthly All Staffs, Leadership Meetings, Campus Meetings, etc. Sometimes, these meetings can be seen as an obstacle to accomplishing your professional to-do list as they take significant time. However, they are essential to promoting unity, mutual care for one another and alignment throughout our Staff and Leadership teams.

Finally, there are several Grace-wide events that we host for our congregations (Grace Family Gatherings, Grace Together, etc). We want you to get involved and attend as well.

Ultimately, please realize that as Grace Staff, no matter your title or job duties, you represent our church and we desire that you actively do so beyond your desk. At times, there will of course be situations that prevent your attendance and participation, but we expect that you’ll discuss these with your Supervisor and both agree that your absence is appropriate based on your circumstances.

Cultural Engagement

Our mission is the Great Commission, but we live out that mission in a particular historical context. That context includes social, ethical, and political issues that concern God’s people on both the local and global scale. We need to interact with these issues courageously and wisely while maintaining our priority on the gospel. As C.S. Lewis observed, “If you read history you will find that the Christians who did most for the present world were just those who thought most of the next.” (Mere Christianity).
