It is the policy of Grace Bible Church that neither its services, publications, nor facilities be used for partisan political purposes. Generally, this also applies to activities that might be construed as partisan. Exceptions to the latter will only be made after approval by the Board of Elders.
This does not mean that we think Christians should be politically neutral or not be individually active in partisan politics. In a nation with a republican form of government, civic responsibility falls upon its citizens. These duties should be performed intelligently and in a manner aimed toward producing good and wise government.
Our position is a matter of priority, putting first things first: Seek first the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 6:33 RVS) We should remember that in this life we each hold a “dual citizenship,” but our citizenship in heaven (Philippians 3:20) takes priority over our citizenship on earth. Our primary responsibility to the world is to be faithful witnesses to Christ.
Our position is also a matter of clarity. We have a significant turnover of both students and adults in our community. Many of these people are non-believers – some are confused and some are perhaps even hostile to the Church and ignorant of true Christian Doctrine. We don’t want our political position to repel anyone because of secondary issues. If someone is offended by us, let it be the offense of the Cross (Galatians 5:11). Paul wrote the Corinthians for much the same reason, “For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him Crucified.” (1 Corinthians 2:2)
