What is Google Takeout?
Google Takeout lets you export a copy of data from your Google account, such as Drive files, Gmail, Calendar, and more. You can choose exactly which products to include.
Before you start
- Use a computer, not a phone or tablet, for the smoothest experience.
- Make sure you sign in to the correct Google account.
- Have storage space ready where you will save the export.
Export your data with Google Takeout
- Open takeout.google.com in a web browser and sign in if prompted.
- Under "Select data to include," choose the products you want to export, such as Drive, Mail, and Calendar. You can click each product to fine‑tune what gets included.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Next step.
- Choose delivery method and format. The default options are recommended for most people.
- Click Create export. Google will prepare your files. This may take hours or even days, depending on the amount of data.
- When the export is ready, you will receive an email with a download link. Download promptly; links typically expire after 10 days.
After you download
- Your export will arrive as one or more .zip or .tgz files. You will likely need to unzip them before viewing.
- Keep your export in a secure location. Anyone with these files could access your data.
- You can view the status of all of your finished or pending exports here
